Who We Are

Located in North Western West (By-God) Virginia, Action County is the third most populous county in WV, and growing. Home to several well-respected colleges and universities, and located between two large metropolitan areas, the county is bordered by the Ohio River and the Ohio line to the west and the Pennsylvania line to the east. The county seat is Wheeling, WV. The primary economic drivers in Action County are tourism and health care delivery.

The governing body is the Action County Territory Board of Associated Directors (ACTBAD), which is a three (3) member group of elected officials. Action County is very proud of the fact that three (3) of the last five (5) West Virginia Governors got their political start as Action County Directors, including the current Governor of the Commonwealth.

Action County Sheriff's Office

The Action County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) provides law enforcement services inside Action County. As a supplement to our ground-based law enforcement units, ACSO, in collaboration with the Action County Community Emergency Services System, operates a dual purpose air support unit that is configured to fly law enforcement sorties, search and rescue operations, and medical transport missions.

Academic Center for Medical Education

Academic Center for Medical Education (ACME) is a 500 + bed tertiary medical center and Level 1 Trauma Center located in Action County WV.

As a large state-owned receiving medical facility, ACME is the medical facility of choice for patients in need of medical treatment in and around the region.


Mutual Emergency Ambulance Networt

Mutual Emergency Ambulance Network (MEAN) is a private non-profit provider of ground ambulance transport in Action and surrounding counties. Providing both EMS response to 911 requests for services, as well as Specialty Care Transport services for interfacilty transports to and from critical access and tertiary care hospitals in and around Action County.

Action County Public Health

Action County Public Health Department helps people with basic needs, such as food stamps and Medicaid. We also have medical clinics that provide healthcare, information and services to help keep individuals and our community safe. These are services often found in county social services and health departments. Our staff care about you and will work hard to get you the help you need.
